An Energy Sector Group Strategic Session is being planned for the last week of January to define the sector’s thrust, targets, and urgent tasks for 2022 to 2023. As in previous years, a report on the year that was will be delivered followed by the proposed work plan for the year. On top of the agenda of this year’s Strategic Session is the implementation of the 2021 Energy Policy. Guidance notes on the Paris Agreement, large hydropower, gas, and waste to energy have been drafted and are expected to go through the same rigor as the Policy when the latter was being processed last year. Another major task is the preparation of the Energy Sector Operational Framework that would sort of serve as an extension of the new Energy Policy in that it will provide detail on the outcome and outputs that the new Policy is aiming for with the corresponding results framework. The operational focus will also be discussed, particularly on which business lines are yet to be developed that have gathered demand from ADB developing member countries, how to mainstream advanced technologies such as CCUS, hydrogen and new renewables (e.g. offshore wind, ocean, and wave energy). The Energy Sector Group Secretariat will be sending invites in due course.
