, China Academy of Sciences
Profile / Bio:

Professor Zifa Wang is the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Boundary Layer Physics and Atmospheric Chemistry (LAPC) of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, CAS. His main research areas include atmospheric pollutant transport and deposition, development of chemical transport models, and the theory and methods of air quality forecasting. He has developed China's own full-scale (global-regional-urban) Nested Air Quality Prediction Modeling System (NAQPMS) and co-developed a new atmospheric chemistry data assimilation system. These efforts supported the establishment of a national, regional, provincial, and city-level air quality ensemble model prediction and warning system, which is crucial in the improvement of air quality, especially in maintaining a clear sky during major national events.

He co-initiated and led the third and fourth phases of the Model Inter-Comparison Study - Asia Phase III/IV (MICS-Asia III/IV). He is the principal or co-author of 400+ SCI papers with 19000+ citations with a H-index of 69. He is one of the Highly Cited Scientists (Earth Science) by Clarivate Analytics in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Moreover, He has been honoured with prestigious awards including the Collective Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement (Outstanding Contributor, 2011), the National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Prize, 2017), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Award for Promoting Development through Science and Technology (2022).
