Zhihong Wei

Zhihong Wei graduated from the Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University, Beijing, PRC in February 1968. He is currently a professor at Tsinghua University, and worked to be deputy director of Global Climate Change Institute of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, an energy research institute located in Tsinghua University.

Since the late 1980s. Prof. Wei has been studying energy, environment, economy, and global climate change focusing, among others, on energy demand forecasting analysis, energy development policy and program, GHG emission reduction, priority areas, reduction cost analysis, and mitigation strategies in the PRC. He has participated in key national science and technology projects for the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Five-Year Plans, as well as in bilateral and multilateral project activities between the PRC and US, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, EU, the World Bank, ADB, etc.

He has actively engaged in capacity building activities for addressing climate change. While appointed as an expert of the PRC Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Management Board of the National Development and Reform Commission, Prof. Wei has reviewed over 850 CDM project design documents covering all sectors in the past more than 10 years. Since 2014, he has also reviewed about 200 Chinese Certified Emission Reductions (CCER) projects, as well as 130 CCER projects for emission reduction approval.
