Vijay Kumar Akasam is an experienced development professional. He holds a master’s degree in Sanitary Engineering from IIHE, Netherlands and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from India and has over 30 years of experience covering entire project cycle including planning, designing, procurement, contract administration, project implementation, program and portfolio management. Vijay was a consultant before joining ADB in October 2017. As a consultant, he held various positions and led many teams in implementing infrastructure projects/programs in 10 countries including India, Malaysia, Qatar, Bahrain, Indonesia, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Azerbaijan, and Nepal. Vijay also served in the Ministry of Electricity and Water in the Kingdom of Bahrain as Head of Planning and Design for two years and in Government of Andhra Pradesh, India for 10 years. He worked for several consulting firms on projects contracts basis and has experience in managing projects funded by ADB, World Bank (WB), AusAid (DFAT), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Department for International Development (DFID). After joining ADB, Vijay worked as senior procurement specialist in procurement, portfolio and financial management department (PPFD) for two years, as senior portfolio management specialist in Pacific Regional Department for two years and for past two and half years he is working as principal portfolio management specialist in the front office of Southeast Asia Regional Department of Asian Development Bank.
