Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne currently works as the Director-General of the National Institute of Education (NIE). NIE under his leadership currently embarked on three key general education reforms i.e., curriculum, teacher training & pedagogy, and assessment. He was the Secretary, of the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka during the period from 2010-to 2015. During that period, he and his team developed the K-SAM Graduates Model and introduced it to the higher education system of Sri Lanka. In addition, Dr. Nawaratne has held several public and private sector senior managerial positions. He obtained his first degree from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, a master’s degree in economics at the University of Kagawa, Japan in 1987. He obtained his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Keio, Tokyo.
