Profile / Bio: 

Sohel Rana possesses 24 years of experience in civil engineering field focusing urban, rural and water resources development sectors in Bangladesh. He started his career as a research engineer at BUET-DUT linkage project on water management in 2001. Later he joined the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) as Assistant Engineer in 2005. During his 14 years of experience in LGED, he gathered extensive experience on project management of development activities with good technical and managerial capabilities having proficiency in project planning, design, implementation and monitoring especially in water resources and urban development sectors. He joined ADB in 2019 and is presently working as Associate Water Resources Officer and supporting Agriculture, Food, Nature and Rural development (AFNR) portfolio of BRM, ADB.

Mr. Sohel gained diversified experience in water resources development, agricultural improvement and climate resilience aspect. His expertise includes project management of flood and riverbank protection, participatory water management, irrigation improvement, climate resilient infrastructure development, haor area development, agricultural production and livelihood improvement activities.

Mr. Sohel is a graduate of Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) and has a post graduate degree in Water Resources Engineering from same university. He also obtained Master of Science in Geoinformatics on Natural Hazards and Risk Engineering from University of Twente, Netherlands.
