Dr. Sirat Mahmdua Joined the Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance as Deputy Secretary on 5 September 2022. Since then she has been working with the UN Wing mainly dedicated funds including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Adaptation Fund (AF). She is working with the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action and V20 and has been assigned as the Focal Point for Global Shield Against Climate Risk in Bangladesh. She drives initiatives that promote climate resilience and sustainable economic development. With expertise in project management and public sector governance, she coordinates large-scale climate initiatives in collaboration with intergovernmental agencies, multilateral development banks, and community stakeholders to support Bangladesh’s adaptation and sustainable development goals. At ERD, she is now working with ADB funded projects.
Dr. Mahmdua holds a PhD in Economic Geography and a master’s degree in Environmental Management and Development from the University of Queensland and the Australian National University, top Australian institutions, where she developed her expertise in quantitative research and analysis for economic and environmental policy. Starting from 2006, Her professional career spans nearly two decades in the public sector project development and management, where she has led projects with a focus on inclusive, evidence-based solutions that align with national priorities for climate adaptation and sustainable development. Over the years, she has worked in different capacities for the Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Education.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mahmdua has successfully translated key government strategies to tangible projects, ensuring strategic alignment and fostering cross-sectoral partnerships in the implementation of those projects. Her work continues to advance Bangladesh’s leadership in sustainable development while underscoring her commitment to innovative policy solutions for climate resilience and economic sustainability.
