Shinya Hanaoka is a Full Professor in the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering, School of Environment and Society, at the Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, United Nations University. He holds a Ph.D. from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. He has previously worked as a Researcher at the Institute for Transport Policy Studies in Tokyo, an Assistant Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, and an Associate Professor in the Department of International Development Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology. He was also a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds, United Kingdom. His research interests include maritime transport, air transport, transport logistics and transport development studies. He has published extensively on these topics and has served in advisory roles for transport and logistics projects in developing countries across Asia and Africa.
