Profile / Bio

Dr Sevrine Sailley is a senior marine ecosystem modeller at Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and has been leading on PML’s Science to Impact Challenge Area towards improving the sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture. She Chairs the Working Group on Integrative, Physical-biological and Ecosystem Modelling with the intergovernmental marine organization the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).

Dr Sailley is an expert in marine food webs and the impact of climate change, in particular around the synergies between fish and climate change whilst also under pressure from the fishing industry. For example, her work includes looking at how climate change will impact important fish species abundance (both commercial and those relied on for subsistence) as well as their distribution. She is an acknowledged international expert working in the Northeast Atlantic, Western Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia Seas. Her work has highlighted the impact of climate on different fish with the intensity depending on the fish habitat and tolerance for warming and changes in productivity in the environment. Importantly, her research informs marine spatial planning and can be found referenced in socio-economic research. Through capacity building work in a number of projects (as well as inter-disciplinary collaborations) Sevrine has developed excellent outreach and engagement skills for sharing complex scientific findings effectively with a large variety of audiences.
