Profile / Bio

Saswata Sanyal is a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Specialist and Intervention Manager at ICIMOD, having joined the organization in January 2024. With over ten years of experience, he leads regional efforts in climate resilience and disaster mitigation across South, South East, and East Asia. His expertise is built on a strong foundation of managing large-scale research projects for international and academic institutions, focusing on policy frameworks and community-based resilience.

Before joining ICIMOD, Dr. Sanyal spent five years at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), where he managed World Bank-funded climate adaptation projects. He holds a PhD from the Asian Institute of Technology and a master’s from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Since 2017, his global impact has been recognized by his appointment as a "Young Scientist" with the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk initiative in Beijing.
