Professor Santosh Jatrana is a Professor of Demography at the Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. She is a quantitative demographer and social epidemiologist with a PhD in Demography from the Australian National University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Previously, she held the position of Research Head at James Cook University’s Murtupuni Research Centre for Rural and Remote Health in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. Professor Jatrana currently holds an Honorary Associate Professorship at the School of Demography, The Australian National University, and a conjoint appointment at James Cook University. She has extensive work experience in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and India.

Her research uses large-scale longitudinal data to examine migrant health, ageing, primary healthcare, health equity, rural and remote health, gender, and broader social determinants of health. Santosh co-founded the first international longitudinal study on primary health care in New Zealand and currently convenes the Mobilities, Diversity, and Multiculturalism research stream at Deakin University. She has secured over $9 million in research grants and prestigious fellowships, including a Swiss National Science Foundation Fellowship, an Endeavour Award from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and an Early Career Research Award from the Australian Academy of Science. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Population Research and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
