Sangita Ahmed is a development activist, entrepreneur and television news presenter. She is the Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) and has been working for women’s economic empowerment since the inception of BWCCI in 2001. Sangita has been active in advocating for women’s access to finance and lowering bank interest rates for women in business as she had been the owner of several small businesses from a very young age during the late eighties and has faced first hand experience of the hurdles women face in attaining financial strength.

She was elected President of BWCCI from 2012 to 2014. She has also served on the board as Director of two state run banks to mainly assist women owned businesses applying for bank loans.

Sangita is the founder and Managing Partner of Time Out Restaurant, established in the year 2000 and running successfully for the past twenty six years.

Over the past two and a half decades she has been running this successful social enterprise with her partner where she employs and trains unemployed youth and has initiated profit sharing program with the staff. She is also a partner of Gala Salon established in December 2017.

Sangita had been a senior news presenter at Bangladesh Television for twenty seven years.

She completed her A’levels from the UK and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in English Literature from the National University, Bangladesh.

Sangita lives in Dhaka and has two sons, a daughter, two daughters in law and two beautiful grandchildren.
