Dr. Piya Hanvoravongchai is secretary general of the National Health Foundation in Bangkok, Thailand. Piya has been active in health policy and system research and health financing development in Thailand and regionally. He teaches health systems and health economics at Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Medicine. Before joining Chulalongkorn University, Piya was a Lecturer in Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a research associate at Harvard University Global Equity Initiative. His recent research includes primary healthcare financing in Southeast Asia, and he is supporting the revision of Bangladesh's health financing strategy.
Piya formerly worked for the World Health Organization in Geneva and the Ministry of Public Health in Thailand. He was also a member of Thailand's National Health Reform Commission and National Health Workforce Commission.
Piya received his M.D. from Mahidol University, his Master's degree from the London School of Economics, and his doctoral degree from Harvard School of Public Health.
