Executive Director, Banteay Srei Profile / Bio Phearong is a woman's rights activist with more than 9 years of working experiences. Phearong is an Executive Director of Banteay Srei Organization. She begins her journey with Banteay Srei in October 2021. Before joining Banteay Srei, she was the Program Manager for Citizen and Youth Empowerment at Transparency International Cambodia, where she pursued her leadership role to empower the younger generation to participate in decision-making from 2018-2021. Prior to this experience, Phearong was a Program Manager at British Embassy in Cambodia in 2016, where she actively led the designation of internship program to increase youth employment and strengthening the partnership among Chevening Alumni in 2016-2018. In 2014, Phearong worked with the European Union Delegation, where she first pursued her professional working experiences in communication for more than 2 years. She is a Board Member of Wedu Cambodia, also a co-founder of Joint of Youth Cambodia, where she led youth group initiatives on social activities, particularly on gender equality issues. In 2023, Phearong was representing women leaders in Southeast Asia, as guest-speaker, speaking about women in leadership at Level Up the Playing Field at FIFA Women World Cup in Sydney. She was recently listed as Leadership and Kindness of the 50 Leaders in Asia Pacific by Women of the Future. Phearong was appointed by the UN Women Cambodia as a Young Champion to implement projects aiming at increasing youth participation in ending gender-based violence. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations at the Royal University of Law and Economics. She completed her master’s degree course in Human Rights Law at the Pannasastra University of Cambodia.
