Senior Research Fellow, UCL Profile / Bio Dr Paul Nderitu, FRCOphth, PhD is a Medical Retina Research Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a Senior Research Fellow at University College London (UK). He holds an MBChB and MPhil in Clinical Medicine (Keele University) and a PhD in artificial intelligence and automated retinal image analysis (King’s College London). His research centres on artificial intelligence, retinal imaging, and foundation models for the detection and prediction of ocular and systemic disease. He has co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications across AI, diabetic eye disease, foundation models, and cataract surgery. As part of the Global RETFound Consortium, his current work focuses on developing representative datasets of real and synthetic retinal images to enable the creation of equitable and generalisable global foundation models.
