Montserrat holds a Ph.D. in Economic History (2015, Lund University, Sweden) and is currently a lecturer in Global Economic History, with focus on Asia, at the University of St Andrews (UK).   Montserrat has been associated to the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University since 2005; first as a Master student and later on, as a teacher, while employed at the Department of Economic History.  She also held a position as Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor’s in Development Studies (BIDS). From 2016 to 2019, she was a Wallander Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Economic History. Her main area of research is the economic development, long-term impact of colonialism, and agricultural transformation in East and Southeast Asia.
