Michael Emmerton

Michael Emmerton is an Australian energy specialist with over 45 years of experience in the power sector, spanning transmission, distribution, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and renewable energy integration. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and began his career at the State Electricity Commission of Victoria before moving into senior utility and consulting roles, including Managing Principal for PB Power across Singapore and Hong Kong and Advisor to the Executive Team at CLP Power Hong Kong.

Michael has worked across nearly 30 countries, including Mongolia, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Bangladesh, on assignments for the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, EBRD, KfW, and UNOPS. His recent work centers on BESS sizing and market design, grid-scale renewable integration, transmission and distribution master planning, and energy sector strategy as Team Leader on Kazakhstan's Energy Storage Development Study and Project Director for a 200 MW solar power plant in Tajikistan. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia and Professional Engineers, Scientists & Managers of Australia.
