Dr Mariella Sugue Castillo is a Health Specialist at UNICEF Philippines. Her work focuses on strengthening health systems to deliver evidence-based maternal and child health care aligned with global health goals. UNICEF supported the deployment of the real time Community Health Information Tracking System (rCHITS) in their project areas in Quezon City and Mindanao.

Dr Castillo is one of the Philippine pioneers in the field of child protection. She was a professor of pediatrics at the University of the Philippines before moving to the World Health Organization as a technical officer.

She is a trained forensic interviewer of children and led the development of the Child Protection Management Information System (CPMIS) at the Philippine General Hospital Child Protection Unit. She received The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Award for her work on child abuse. She has published in local and international peer-reviewed journals. She graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and has a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology.
