, International Labor Organization Profile / Bio Makiko Matsumoto is an Employment Specialist at the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Bangkok. She holds an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK) and is a doctoral candidate in Hitotsubashi University (Japan). In Geneva, she worked as a research economist in employment-related areas, such as implications of globalization and trade on employment, pro-employment macroeconomic policy framework, and youth employment and school-to-work transition of young women and men. She also contributed to policy advisory work at the country level for employment policy development and reviews in the CIS and in Southeast Asia. Since 2013, she has been working as an employment specialist in the Decent Work Technical Support Team for East and South-East Asia and the Pacific in ILO Bangkok. She has been supporting research activities to inform the formulation of employment policies. She has also been contributing to the strengthening of labor market information management and analysis capacities of national institutions in Asia and the Pacific region. Her recent research interest has been on strengthening and deepening her understanding on the structural change and gender dimensions of labor market outcomes in various economic contexts in the region.
