Director of Planning, Development and Risk Management, Health Social Security Administration (BPJS) Profile / Bio Profile / Bio Mahlil Ruby is currently the Director of Planning, Development, and Risk Management at the Health Social Security Administration (BPJS). He was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, on February 19, 2021. Mahlil Ruby will serve for five years. BPJS Kesehatan is a public legal body in the Republic of Indonesia that provides its citizens with universal health care. In 2016, the BPJS program had a more than six trillion IDR deficit. However, the deficit ballooned to 32 trillion in only three years. In response, the government issued a policy increasing the monthly access premium by 80 to 100%. Some saw the move as burdening the low- and middle-income citizens. Every Indonesian citizen and foreigner who has worked in Indonesia for at least six months must become a member of the program, following Article 14 of the BPJS Regulation. As a person working in the world of health, he is active in many health programs. He received his doctoral degree in Public Health at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia in 2006. He was a consultant, senior expert, and senior advisor at GIZ (The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in 2013 and 2017. In addition to that, he was also a Health Specialist at USAID Jakarta in 2015. From 2000 to 2017, he was involved in more than 80 research projects, surveys, and studies related to health in almost all of Indonesia.
