Jonas Karlström, Associate Professor & Core Lead, Innovation Science for Global Health, Sing Health Duke-NUS Global Health Institute is a Swedish MD trained in pediatrics and a global health professional with more than 15 years of experience in health innovation, health, international development, policy, and global health. 

Before joining the SDGHI, Dr Karlström worked from 2015 in various positions of UNICEF Health and Innovation programming. In this capacity, he led several large health innovation efforts for the centre including a UNICEF Scaling Initiative to scale up access to oxygen therapy which was implemented in multiple countries in West and Central Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

At SDGHI, Dr Karlström held a lead organizing role for the World One Health Congress 2022, initiated a project innovation portfolio on affordable trauma care solutions in Sri Lanka & created the first graduate certificate on Global Health Innovation in Asia. 

In January 2025, he led the Asia-Pacific GlobalHealth Innovation Hackathon focused on climate-health innovation in which AI-based and powered solutions featured heavily. Dr Karlström has published a range of articles on implementation &investigations of various types of novel health technologies, including diagnostic devices & Health AI, in LMICs across a variety of geographies.
