Director, HISP Vietnam Profile / Bio John Lewis is a senior Health Information Systems (HIS) expert and one of the longest-standing DHIS2 implementers globally, with over two decades of experience advancing digital health systems across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. Born on 19 June 1980, he holds a PhD in Health Information Systems (2011) and a Master’s degree in Informatics with a specialization in GIS (2005), both from the University of Oslo. John currently serves as Director of HISP Vietnam and works as a DHIS2 Consultant for the University of Oslo. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, he supports national, regional, and international partners in strengthening digital health infrastructures, surveillance platforms, and data-driven decision-making. His work spans system architecture, national data warehouse design, data integration, training of trainers, and large-scale DHIS2 customization and implementation. Over his 20-year career with HISP and DHIS2, John has contributed to health systems in more than 20 countries, including Vietnam, Lao-PDR, Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Mozambique, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tajikistan. With a commitment to strengthening health systems through open-source technologies, John Lewis continues to serve as a key advisor, trainer, and architect in global digital health, shaping the future of data-driven public health across low- and middle-income countries.
