
Hon. James Marape has been a member of parliament since 2007. Prior to becoming Prime Minister in 2019, he was Minister of Education from 2008-2011 and Minister of Finance from 2012-2019. He was re-elected to the 11th National Parliament in the 2022 National General Elections for the Tari Open seat as a PANGU party candidate. Elected Prime Minister on 09/08/2022, serving as caretaker Minister for Planning on 24/08/2022, and as caretaker Minister for Foreign Affairs on 16/05/2023. In a cabinet reshuffle on the 19/01/2024, he relinquished his role as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and appointed himself as the Treasurer.
Education: Bachelor of Arts (1993), Post Graduate Honors in Environmental and Science
(2000), and Master of Business Administration, University of Papua New Guinea.
