As Team Leader and Climate Change Specialist to ADB’s Knowledge Support and Technical Assistance (KSTA) Project on Strengthening Integrated Flood Risk Management (TA 9634-REG), Ian Wood draws on 35 years of experience working in the water resources and flood management sectors, and over half of this experience has been in southeast Asia.
Through working on projects with development banks and bilateral donor agencies such as ADB, World Bank, Australian Aid, USAID, AFD, Enabel, and Danida, Ian Wood can offer some insights on the many practical aspects for implementation of flood risk and disaster management programs. Lessons learned include that successful projects require a mesh between theory, innovation, traditional engineering practice, and human resource capacities. Furthermore, climate change is driving the need for greater integration including practical application of nature-based solutions and softer, community-oriented approaches.
This webinar series provides the unique opportunity to share some experiences gained from a bird’s-eye-view of trends in the flood sector across eight countries as well as the lessons from activities to support planning and identification of flood risk management initiatives.
