Chairul Hudaya

Dr. Chairul Hudaya is an academic and energy systems expert whose career integrates education, research, and applied innovation. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Universitas Indonesia (2006), a Master of Engineering in Energy Systems Engineering from Seoul National University (2009), and a Ph.D. in Energy and Environmental Engineering from the University of Science and Technology – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (2016). Since 2009, he has served as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UI, holding leadership roles including Head of the Energy System Engineering Study Program, Head of the Electrical Energy Conversion Laboratory, and Finance and Grant Manager of the SMART CITY UI initiative. From 2020 to 2024, he was Rector of Sumbawa University of Technology (UTS), where he advanced applied innovations such as solar-powered cold storage, NgebUTS electric bicycles for fishermen, and Tabung Listrik (TaLis), a portable solar energy storage system for remote regions.

In July 2024, Dr. Hudaya was appointed Head of the Department of Interdisciplinary Engineering (DIK FTUI) and currently serves as Director of the Directorate of High-Impact Innovation and Research (DIRBT) at Universitas Indonesia. In this capacity, he leads strategic research and innovation initiatives, promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthens technology transfer and commercialization, and builds partnerships across academia, industry, and government. His research spans energy storage materials, electrical materials for power systems, renewable energy applications, power engineering, energy planning, and sustainable energy management, with over 100 scientific publications. He is also active in community empowerment projects, including solar-powered water systems for pesantren, agriculture, and post-disaster areas. His contributions have been recognized through awards such as the Rector as Academic Leader (2023), the ASEAN Young Scientist and Technologist Award (2017), and multiple Outstanding Lecturer distinctions at university and national levels.
