Bertrand Goalou is leading the sustainable urban transport and railways activities of the Transport Sector Group in the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department of the Asian Development Bank. He provides advice, expertise and support to Operations Departments and assists in the development of transport sector assistance to align with clients emerging needs and corporate objectives.
With 20 years of experience in the sector, Bertrand’s expertise covers all stages of the project cycle. He joined ADB in 2010 as project Team Leader and devised sustainable urban transport projects in Central West Asia with a focus on innovative and transformative solutions. He was seconded out to the Agence Française de Développement from 2016 to 2020 where he led the AFD urban transport portfolio and implemented projects in Africa and in Asia. Prior to joining ADB, Bertrand held various Project Director positions in a leading transportation engineering firm. He worked in Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa and developed tailored transportation initiatives including urban mobility plans, bus rapid transit, light rail, metro, non-motorized transport and railways projects.
Bertrand holds a postgraduate degree in urban planning and transport from ParisTech, France (2001) and a master degree in civil engineering and urban planning from the National Institute for Applied Sciences (INSA), France (1998).
