Profile / Bio

Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II is a leader, innovator, and educator who currently serves as the University System President of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP).

A researcher, engineer, and academic, he has been a strong advocate of innovation and technopreneurship as key drivers of sustainable development. He spearheaded USTP and the former Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) in institutionalizing policies and implementing programs that support this advocacy. His academic specialization includes renewable energy hybrid systems, energy storage, smart grids, and distributed generation.
Dr. Cultura earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Power and Energy Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he also completed his Master’s degree under the Ford Foundation–International Fellowship Program. His expertise in electrical engineering has led to numerous research publications, citations, and recognitions in both national and international research arenas. Beyond academia, he has shared his expertise through various extension projects that have significantly benefited communities.

His years of dedicated public service were recognized by the Republic of the Philippines when he was named one of the few recipients of the Lingkod Bayan Award in 2023.

Dr. Cultura is a father of six and the husband of Mrs. Emersita O. Cultura. Despite the demands of his roles as university president, educator, and engineer, he strongly advocates work–life balance and makes time for his family and faith as an active member of the Catholic Church.
