Deputy Representative, North American Representative Office, ADB Profile / Bio Alain Borghijs serves as the Deputy Representative in the North American Representative Office of ADB, a role he has held since 2022. With two decades at ADB, Alain has extensive experience across various departments, including leading Country Partnership Strategies for Afghanistan and Kazakhstan and overseeing grant fund negotiations as part of the Strategy and Policy Department. His previous roles include serving as Principal Economist in ADB’s Central and West Asia Department and as an Advisor with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Before joining ADB in 2004, Alain was a contractual economist at the International Monetary Fund and a postdoctoral visiting scholar at Harvard University. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp, Belgium.
