Ahmad Sofiullah

Ahmad Sofiullah is a marine and coastal ecosystem specialist with more than fifteen years of experience at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia. His educational background is fisheries and environmental policy. He currently serves as the team leader for Convention and Ocean Accounting at the Directorate General of Ocean Management, supporting the integration of international commitments like BBNJ, CBD, CITES into national marine policy. His work focuses on the development and strengthening of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), contributing to Indonesia’s commitment to conserve 30% of its marine areas under the national Blue Economy Policy and in alignment with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. He also involved with the national CITES Management Authority for aquatic species, working to ensure the sustainable use of Indonesia’s marine biodiversity while safeguarding the livelihoods of coastal communities. Ahmad serves as Indonesia focal point for Marine Protected Area Technical Working Group at The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF).
