Agnetha Vave-Karamui

Agnetha Vave-Karamui is the Deputy Secretary Technical at the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) of the Solomon Islands Government.

She has more than 17 years of experience in government, primarily within the Environment and Conservation Division, where she has led and supported national programs on biodiversity conservation, protected areas, and community-based resource management, with a particular focus on coastal, marine, and ocean management. From 2009 to 2023, she co-led the implementation and coordination of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) in the Solomon Islands alongside the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and development partners. She is also a member of the Solomon Islands National Coordinating Committee (SINCC).

In September 2025, Agnetha assumed her current executive management role, providing policy and technical oversight across the ministry's Environment and Conservation, Disaster Management, Climate Change, and Meteorological Services divisions.

Agnetha holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji and a Master of Environmental Science and Law from the University of Sydney, Australia.
