ADB and IEA deepen collaboration in a new MOU

Building up on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017 President Masa and International Energy Agency Executive Director, Fatih Birol signed a new MOU to deepen the collaboration between the two organizations particularly on energy sector resilience in Asia and the Pacific. The new 3-year MOU will merge the comparative advantages of the two organizations as they share knowledge and best practice in energy sector data and analysis, on-the-ground engagement, capacity building, technology, and innovation. This effort will fill the gap in critical knowledge and experience that remain a challenge to the development of sustainable energy systems in ADB's developing member countries and will also facilitate IEA’s data collection and capacity building efforts in Asia and the Pacific.IEA had provided its expertise in the study power system flexibility in India to integrate more solar and wind energy in the grids and had also been one of the major knowledge partners of the Asia Clean Energy Forum. Executive Director Fatih Birol joined President Masa during the opening plenary ADB’s 15th Asia Clean Energy Forum 2020 in June. The MOU was signed on 9 July 2020, on the occasion of IEA’s Clean Energy Transitions Summit where President Masa gave a speech at the opening plenary session to an audience of over 50 energy ministers and energy sector leaders.
