Sabyasachi (Saby) Mitra is the Director of Public Management, Financial Sector & Trade Division of the South Asia Department of Asian Development Bank. He has been with ADB for 15 years and specializes mainly in development finance, policy planning, regional cooperation and institutional partnerships.
Prior to taking up this assignment, he was the Deputy Country Director of the India Resident Mission of ADB. Earlier, Mr. Mitra was the Deputy Representative at the European Representative Office of the ADB in Frankfurt. He also held the position of Principal Economist in the South Asia Regional Department looking after economic sector research as well as taking the lead in conceptualizing and implementing ADB's innovative work on economic/industrial corridors in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He spent four years with ADB’s Office for Regional Economic Integration (OREI), supporting bank’s work on financial regionalism and developing regional bond markets. He has co-authored two books, including a publication – Bhutan: New Pathways to Growth (Oxford University Press 2016).
