Shri Ajay Desai has been working on large mammal conservation and management, particularly elephant, for 36 years in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, etc. and been associated with various national and international NGOs, FAO, and government departments. His studies have covered ranging and social behavior, population dynamics, conservation, human-wildlife conflict, conservation aspects including infrastructure development in and around wildlife areas.
