Knowledge Product Launch: Leveraging Data for Urban Design and Planning in Post-COVID Cities

08 June 2021

The disastrous effects of the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic underline the importance of integrating public health considerations in planning resilient cities. That effort begins with understanding how the pandemic has been interacting with cities over the past year. Many cities have been collecting diverse kinds of pandemic-related data, which has helped to mitigate some of the worst consequences of COVID-19. This data can also serve as a foundation for improving future city design, planning, and development policy.

This webinar served to launch the manual on Leveraging Data for Urban Design and Planning in Post-COVID Cities, which was developed using spatial pandemic-related data from the city of Makassar in Indonesia to support resilient planning in the city and beyond. The launch discussed the primary themes of the manual and how it can support the crafting of practical post-pandemic urban planning recommendations. The manual was developed by the Future Cities Lab (FCL) Singapore under the auspices of the ASEAN Australia Smart Cities Trust Fund (AASCTF) for the City of Makassar.
